Description: The Family Health Council of Central PA (FHCCP) has developed a teen pregnancy prevention program that is promising, innovative, feasible, and could have an impact on teen pregnancy rates in the targeted communities. The program, On Second Thought (O2T), is a teen pregnancy prevention curriculum targeting 11-14 year olds. The O2T program aims to 1) increase the knowledge, confidence and skills of youth in making informed decisions regarding sexual behavior, 2) increase engagement with parents/care givers regarding sexual development and activity, 3) assist youth in identifying an environmental network of resources to support their decision-making through their sexual development, and 4) reduce adverse health outcomes among youth. Expected long-term outcomes include a decrease in the number of sexually active teens, the number of teen pregnancies, and the rates of STIs/STDs among teens living in small cities and rural PA.
O2T is being implemented by the Family Health Council of Central PA and through partnerships with Hamilton Health Center in Harrisburg, The Reproductive Health Center in Williamsport and Planned Parenthood of Western PA in Pittsburgh. More info.

Description: Our school district is currently developing curriculum using the HECAT tool provided by the 1308 DASH Grant. We will be attempting to choose a comprehensive sexual health curriculum. We are currently using the FLASH Curriculum, the sexual education network and Advocates for Youth’s Rights, Respect, Responsibility: A K-12 Curriculum as resources for our curriculum development. We haven’t chosen a complete curriculum at this time.
FLASH is a widely used comprehensive sexual health education curriculum developed by Public Health Seattle–King County designed to prevent teen pregnancy, STDs, and sexual violence, and is available for elementary, middle, high school and special education classrooms. FLASH lessons prepare students to: abstain from sex, confirm consent before engaging in sexual activity, communicate with their family about sexual health, make decisions that minimize risk to their sexual health, seek medical care in order to take care of their reproductive health.
Sexual Education Network has over 100 lesson plans, including handouts, on a comprehensive list of topics, from puberty to senior citizens and includes discussion forums to describe the successes, challenges, and adaptations of different lessons.
Rights, Respect, Responsibility : A K-12 Curriculum fully meets the National Sexuality Education Standards and covers all 16 topics recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as essential components of sexual health education. It is inclusive for issues related to sexual orientation and gender identity and includes family homework activities resources for educators at every grade level.
