Male Body Image

It seems that most of the conversation about body image has to do with girls, but they aren’t the only ones that can have body issues. Guys care just as much as girls about their physical appearance, though they are much less likely to discuss it with friends or family.
During puberty, your body changes so much that it is all you focus on – plus, being the only guy with a changing voice or growing body can make you feel uncomfortable and self-conscious. Everyone grows at a different rate, so you may feel “scrawny” now but may develop later. If you’re really worried, talk to someone about it like your parents, your family doctor, or a counselor.
How do I have a positive body image?

  • Focus on your strengths
  • Participate in some kind of exercise – team sports, individual sports, hiking, etc
  • Take care of your body and eat well
  • Finally – be yourself. Your talents, hobbies, skills and personality also mold who you are.
